The Voice-Raiser

Sometimes our cities are designed for the taller people in our life, without kids as a focus. Shouldn’t we make sure that we make our hometowns the best place to live, learn, play and stay for the kids in our lives? They are our future policy makers, teachers, parents, farmers, and scientists after all. Our youth board, The Never Bored Board thought that we should give kids the opportunity to help make the changes they need in the world; an opportunity to share with their community, their bright ideas to make their cities the best place to live, learn, play, and stay.

How did we do it? First, we planned the most awesome and exciting event we could possible imagine- a lego pit, a fort building station, a petting zoo, a birthday party for everyone, dress up and toys in every corner, a talent show, a science experiment zone, an outdoor library, and of course- a stage. This stage was not only to showcase our awesome local young musicians, but to share the great ideas from kids all over the Ohio Valley.

Next, we sent idea sheets to our local elementary schools, so all the ideas that couldn’t make it to the stage could be presented on “idea boards” for our whole town to see at the festival. This, of course, meant that we needed to make sure that the decision makers would be at our event. So, our youth board created posters to be spread throughout the city, and personal invitations for teachers, pastors, city council, public servants, our mayor, and all the community leaders we could think of. This turned out to be incredibly effective! Every year our audience is full of community support and ears ready to hear the changes we believe need to be made. Ideas from from kids range from increasing public water fountains to operations to assist homeless youth in schools. Check out to photos below or our documentary above to learn some of the ideas and check out a sneak peak of what The Voice-Raiser looks like! See you at the next one!
